Celebrating 50 Years of Standards Development

CLSI was originally formed as the National Committee for Clinical Laboratory Standards (NCCLS). The idea for the committee arose from the technological revolution in clinical laboratory products that grew in the 1960s. This rapid advancement in technology hastened the need for quality control and standardization in laboratory testing.

For over 50 years, our members, volunteers, and customers have made CLSI a respected, transformative leader in the development and implementation of medical laboratory testing standards. Standardization in the laboratory improves the quality and efficiency of testing, which ultimately improves patient care outcomes.
